Larimar is an exquisite rare gemstone mineral that is found only in the Dominican Republic. It is also known as the "dolphin stone" due to its blue color that resembles the Caribbean sea. Larimar is a type of pectolite mineral that forms in cavities within volcanic rocks. It was first discovered in 1916, but it was not until 1974 that it was re-discovered and named "Larimar" by Miguel Mendez, who named it after his daughter "Larissa" and the Spanish word for "sea" ("mar"). Larimar is a popular gemstone for jewelry, and it is believed to have healing and metaphysical properties.
